So Cool

CJ and I just registered for classes. Yes, you read that correctly, I registered for a class. TESOL (teaching English to speakers of other languages)!!

The best part of it all, is between staff scholarships and the low cost of our books, etc. We were able to pay both of our tuition's in FULL today.

God is amazing.

Breaks, Beach, Giveaways, and Meme's


With that title, your bound to already know that this post is a round up of things that have happened, are happening, or are about to happen.

I've been a bit out of the loop lately in blogland. Trust me, I have plenty of good ideas and thoughts going on in my head. But I can't seem to get them out on "paper."

Perhaps it has something to do with CJ being on break. One week from today he starts back up with classes. There is a tiny bit of dread in my voice as I write this. Full time work + full time school +everything else going on = very little time as a family or married couple. Still we are on this journey for good reasons and I trust that God will take care of all our needs.

Of course, I say that, because He already has blessed us with an unexpected get away. No names. But we were given some money and told to do something for ourselves that was fun. It was just enough for us to book 3 nights in a family suite at a resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. The resort is secluded, has an indoor water park, and more. We leave tomorrow. And I am seriously looking forward to just getting away and sitting on the beach. Honestly, sea air really cleans out the cobwebs in my head.

Classic Mama introduced us to this awesome blog, 4 Reluctant Entertainers. She's hosting a fun giveaway, of which I dutifully signed up for. But beyond that, I'm quite excited to start perusing her site and getting some good ideas. I have a "sermon" in my head about conversations, talking with others, and learning how to go deep quickly. Suffice to say, I think that I may find her blog only adding to it! Go check her out.

Finally, Thrills tagged me for the 6 word meme about myself. You are supposed to write a six word memoir about yourself and then post a pic along with it. Help! I found this one tough. But this is what I came up with.

New and Old

It's a new day, a new week, with new grace, and new mercy. Despite some setbacks, in just my own little mind, last week. I'm feeling the hope in my heart from Him, to start this week NEW and fresh.

It's also the end of the trimester for my husband. Which means its finals week. Which means there will be lots of studying and prayer as he finishes out the winter trimester. But the great news in all of this, is that I just may have my husband and father of my children back again.... at least for the month that he is off from classes.

In an effort to wrap up some unfinished business (because I am sure you are all biting your nails in anticipation!)..... I did end up taking the kids out of the house the other day, when I was struggling with this! We went to the library and to McDonalds for a treat and some time to play and then that evening we went to church. Getting out and about did seem to help with the fighting.

And as far as my concerns on this subject....well, I'm still not very far in determining what my traditions are. I did sit down, research biblical meanings of holidays and began a small list of do's and don'ts for our home. Our do list included having people in our home, who have no families to be with. So, that is what we did yesterday. We attended church, enjoyed a nice afternoon around the house, and then had a smashing meal with some students whose families were too far away to celebrate with. It was warm and enjoyable.

Finally, the three week "Sorry, We're Closed" event is over as of this weekend. In all seriousness I could take an extended vacation for another 3 weeks. However, I think there would be an uprising in our home. But I do think we came out of it a bit more peaceful.... a bit!

While there is some good stuff going on in my head these days, I've decided to take the week off from blogging. I want to focus my limited energies on some other goals at hand, mainly seeing my husband through finals week, keeping up with homeschooling, visiting the gym, and getting a sewing project done. We will see if I can actually keep "quiet" this week!

StoryCorps

I am an avid listener to NPR. I listen to music all the time, really I do and almost always I have a worship cd in. When I do turn the radio on, I listen to only 2 stations, the local christian radio and NPR. I grew up on NPR.

My mom listened to it all the time. And now, both my brother and I have it programmed in our cars and houses. Sometimes I get a call from my brother, saying, go download this article off of NPR's site and listen to it. It's so good.

Of course, my husband LOVES to listen to Fresh Air, with Terry Gross. And one year, for Christmas I purchased the Driveway Moments, cd set. We both listened to them.

My sweet sister in law and brother, bought my mom the book, Listening is an Act of Love, for Christmas this year. She finished it in days and then passed it on to me. I of course, devoured it, and am trying to decide whom I should pass it on to. The book is a compilation of some of the interviews done by StoryCorps. Here is an excerpt from their site, explaining their mission:


“Since 2003, almost 30,000 everyday people have shared life stories with family and friends in our StoryBooths. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the Library of Congress. Millions listen to our broadcasts on public radio and the web. StoryCorps is the largest oral history project of its kind.”


Well, the mobile StoryCorp is coming to Charlotte next month! You can't sign up for interviews (you bring someone there and then interview them) until the end of January. But, oh, do I ever want to do this! What a neat opportunity to record a piece of personal history and know that someday the generations to come will actually be able to hear your voice and learn something about their ancestors!
